Tea at Tearoom Toka, Kyoto

Near the Kyotogyoen Garden is Tearoom Toka, with an adjoining gallery. The building feels truly authentic, beautifully renovated with warm colors and well-placed lighting. I was lucky to get a spot for the tea tasting on short notice. The bar is very small, with a lovely window overlooking the garden. I tried both a sencha and a matcha. Watching the preparation alone was so impressing. Photos and filming weren’t allowed, which I actually appreciated for the chance to fully focus. The matcha, served cold, was the best I’ve ever had. The gallery featured a fantastic selection of ceramics and other art. Definitely one of my favorite experiences.
